This mythical tale held my interest throughout the entire story. The author has brought these characters to life and with vivid descriptions puts the reader in the middle of the adventure. I highly recommend this for adults and teens. I am anxiously awaiting the sequel and was sorry when the book ended. This is a must read!

In "The Hidden Ones: Awakened" By Kathy Goodhew, she introduces us to the world of fairies that is all around us and yet hidden to most every human. In the story, the young girl Mena has experienced difficulties and her mother was tragically killed in a car accident three years ago. Mena begins having strange, repeating dreams that she shares with her grandmother, who tells her stories about the existence of fairies. Only on rare occasions and special circumstances do the fairies allow themselves to be seen by humans. As Mena looks to uncover the meaning of her dreams, she brings her family and new boyfriend Lucas into the incredible world of "The Hidden Ones."The story itself is intriguing and has several twists and turns that make for an exciting read. The book is long and does have lots of detail about the characters and their surroundings. Most of the book is written from the perspective of Mena and I, personally, would have preferred if the entire book would have kept that perspective, as it does switch back and forth a few times between the other characters, which was sometimes a little confusing. I like the ending, although I'm not going to spoil it for you here. I understand that there is already a sequel to this book and I am interested in seeing where Kathy takes the journey from this point.

Kathy Goodhew brings imagination to life with her colorful description of this magical world. This story of a new love and love lost will keep you wanting to read more. Mena and her family's bond grow stronger as they unravel the secrets and discover this unique fairy world. She and her new love, Lucas, have many encounters with these mythical beings and learn much from them. All ages will enjoy the blossoming romance, the adventure, and the mystery that has fallen on this Noakes family. You will enjoy escaping into this wonderful world of imagination and will want to continue Mena's adventure in the sequel- The Hidden Ones "Confluence."
Kathy Goodhew brings her magical world to life in this fantasy story and it kept me wanting more. The main character Mena finds love in a boy named Lucas, while still grieving from her mother's death. Vivid dreams come to her every night, leaving her puzzled as to what they are all about. As Mena hikes in the woods with her friends, they come across the very same meadow that Mena has been dreaming about. When she tells her Nana about the dream and the being in the dream, and about the meadow Mena and her friends found, her Nana seems to think that Mena has met a fairy. Romance, mystery, and adventure are all woven throughout this story, making it enchanting. Wouldn't you like to meet a Hidden one? I know I would. Five stars. I can't wait to read the sequel- The Hidden Ones Confluence.
